Why Tassos will win

Because Stravaralanders are reconciled with the status quo as the best possible solution under the circumstances. Why risk it with Kassou or Jimmy, who might turn around and really go for a bizonal, bicommunal federation? If you have The Real Thing, why risk it?

Because the international community is satisfied with the status quo.

Because the T/C and Turkey are both satisfied with the status quo. Why risk it with Jimmy or Kassou, when the international community knows what it gets with Tassos. But if someone else is elected, the international community will have to be reconvinced that Jimmy or Kassou are really milder versions of Tassos, but still pandering to the same needs of their electorate, and therefore unable to get a majority through the tough compromise.

Because the supporters of a settlement are not certain of the way to proceed, while the supporters of partition know exactly what they want to do, how they are going to achieve it and are 100% certain they are correct.

Because, if you have The Real Thing, why should you risk losing it?

Don't you think that by generalising so much you may be unfair to some target groups?

There other things to consider besides the Cyprus Problem. For example, i'm horrified just by thinking what Jimmy and his comrades may do to the kratiko mixanismo.

Also, for reasons well said by others in the past, i would never vote Sampson's party.

OK, i'm done being the devil's advocate :)

Have a nice day

Ta idia pantelaki mou... Kratikos mixanismos seems to be the highest priority for George and his fears are expressed frequently as one of the reasons against "Jimmy". AKEL was sharing power until recently with two succesive ministers of the interior, at a ministry which is most vulnerable, if you know what I mean ;) Now what examples can anyone give us to justify his fears?

Em.. a good justification of my fears may well be the proslipseis in the semigovernmental organisations were in most of them akel has the majority of board members.

Another good example maybe the bullshit the student union is saying in cyprus (ΠΣΕΜ - Παγκύπρια Συντονιστική Επιτροπή Μαθητών) who again is AKEL in its majority.

The list goes on...

Ciao

@George:

I actually agree with you that relatively (not absolutely) speaking Tassos wins in domestic governance.

I am not generalizing though. Different people vote for different reasons. I am just saying, if you prefer, that the elections will be close. But there will be a sufficient number of people who will vote based on the fear of losing The Real Thing, based on the fear that someone might actually bring back the stated bi-bi federation. This group of people will be critical in turning the balance towards Tassos. I do not see any generalization here.

Well, George, you have me at a disadvantage. I tried to find any information about the semigovernmental organisations or ΠΣΕΜ but couldn't find much.

Is it true that AKEL has the majority of board members in those organisations? If they do have majority then they have the power to do whatever they want. Is that true? Can you give me an example?

Other than some neutral reports in online papers about ΠΣΕΜ (school uniform etc) I couldn't find any other bulshit.

I am not living in Cyprus so I may have missed stories that support what you are saying.
